Traveling by Air

If you plan to reach Northern California by plane, you can choose to fly into Sacramento International Airport (SMF) and then drive the remaining 1 1/2 - 2 hours to Chico, or you can pay a little more to get a connecting flight directly into Chico Municipal Airport (CIC). The drive from SMF to Chico is a very straight-forward one. Click here for Google Map directions.

Rental Cars

For rental car information at SMF, go to the SMF website link above and click on To & From the Airport -> Rental Cars. To rent a car in Chico, click here to see a Google Map list of rental car companies. As of this writing, Hertz seems to be the only rental company located at the airport; however, many companies have pick-up services. We do not endorse one company over another; please read all reviews and make the best choice for your situation.

Lodging

Chico is a small to medium size town and AVL is located on a major road that runs all the way through the middle of downtown. All hotels are within approximately 10-30 minutes driving time. You can find a list of places to stay in Chico by visiting the Chico Chamber of Commerce, or by taking a look at the Google Map below. For hotels, we recommend Hotel Diamond, Residence Inn Marriott and Courtyard Marriott at the upper price range and Heritage Inn Express, Quality Inn and America’s Best Value Inn towards the lower price range. Hotel Diamond, Heritage Inn Express, Quality Inn and America’s Best Value Inn are all located in downtown Chico within walking distance of many restaurants.

For a charming bed and breakfast experience, we recommend The Grateful Bed (530-342-2464), Johnson's Country Inn (530-345-7829) and Corey Country Inn (530-345-2955) which are located between 10 and 30 minutes driving time from AVL.
