Basically WeavePoint

by: Jannie Taylor

This class is designed for the weaver who wants to take advantage of the many features found in WeavePoint software to save them time and money. Find out why this powerful textile design program is used by handweavers and designers the world over to create extraordinary textiles. Using a combination of demonstration, guided practice and independent exploration, even novice users readily gain access to WeavePoint's most useful and effective tools.

The various aspects of the program will be examined, discussed, and used in practical weaving situations. All materials and equipment will be provided including all drafts used in the class and access to a computer running AVL WeavePoint software. Students are encouraged, but not required to bring their own laptop computer to class.

Day 1 - Apprentice Level

As an apprentice you will create several simple drafts, add color to the designs, Print, Save, Copy, and Paste. Then you will learn to open a saved draft, use the Library Menu, Analyze Menu, Project Planner, and Options Window. Learn to edit colors and create a color palette.

Day 2 - Artisan Level

Using the skills acquired on day one, you'll practice using the "Paste Special", Overlay, and Block Substitution features. Explore the Utilities Menu including Mirror, Wrap Liftplan, and "Tromp as writ". Learn to Export files to the .WIF format. Learn how to insert tabby in the threading and how to interleave one treadling into another. See how easy it is to create a parallel threading or treadling with the amazing "Insert Parallel" command.

Day 3 - Master Level

Add to your new skills by learning to use WeavePoint's most powerful and amazing tools. Investigate the Design Window; convert a profile draft to a threading draft, and then Transform the design to the structure of your choice. Experiment with Network Drafting; find out how to "Open Components" and experiment with blending drafts. Finally, learn to use WeavePoint to drive a loom with an electronic interface and how to navigate the Weave window.

While it is true that mastery cannot be gained in three days, this course provides the skills to use you program more effectively and the knowledge to become a WeavePoint Master in the fullness of time.

Skill Level: Intermediate -- some software experience is desirable. Class is limited to ten students.
