The E-Lift Technical Information and History

Welcome to the AVL E-Lift, the electronic marvel that makes lifting harnesses a breeze. The E-Lift, first launched in the mid-1990s was originally intended for the 40 Harness Full-Frame looms, but with it's quiet operation and need only for an electrical outlet, customers quickly began asking for the E-Lift over the pneumatic lift system called the Air-Lift as upgrades to their existing looms.

The E-Lift is engineered from state-of-the-art stepper motor and driver combinations. Most models contain:

  • Programming custom-written for the loom type
  • Electronics for the user and loom interfaces
  • Fused power supply allows resetting when tripped
  • Specialized nautalus-shapped Cam and pulley to optimize leverage
  • Easy-to-use foot pedal, electrically controlls E-Lift
  • Mounting system and hardware
  • All cleanly packaged in a hardwood or sheet metal enclosure

The E-Lift has the following specifications:

The E-Lift has undergone 4 major revisions in its history. These include:

  • "Original" E-Lift - mounted in the Dobby Back with Controls mounted in a Customized Compu-Dobby II. This version was packaged with the Ultimate Dobby Loom and possibly the first of the AVL 40s (both 40 harness looms).
  • E-Lift Jr - mounted on top of the Harness Pulley Support. This version was sold primarily as an upgrade for Production and Folding Dobby Looms. Follow the link for installation instructions. Click here to view the installation video.
  • E-Lift "I"- mounted to the bottom of the Treadle Support with distinct wood Control Box which sat on the floor tethered to the E-Lift. The version was originally packaged with the AVL 40, and then the A-Series 40 Harness until the July 2006. The model was also sold as an upgrade for A-Series, Production and Technical Dobby Looms.

  • E-Lift I Motor and Control Box

  • E-Lift II - a self contained unit with both motor and controls assembled in sheet metal enclosure and mounted to the bottom of the Treadle Support. This model was launched in August of 2006. It is currently being packaged with the A-Series 40 Harness and also sold as an upgrade for A-Series, Production, Technical, Folding & Studio Dobby Looms.

All E-Lifts use an electrically actuated foot switch that sits on the floor where the treadles would otherwise be located. Information is relayed from the foot switch to the E-Lift controller, which lifts the dobby arm or dobby slide plate and thus the harnesses.
