Compu-Dobby Control -- Without a Computer!

PocketWeave, the newest weave software from AVL, transports weaving into the mobile age by allowing you to control your AVL Compu-Dobby loom with a Pocket PC device.

A Pocket PC is a handheld device (also known as a Personal Digital Assistant or PDA) that enables you to store and retrieve e-mail, contacts, appointments, browse the Web, and now weave! The Pocket PC provides the power of a personal computer with exceptional portability and integration. Unlocking its power begins with customizing your Pocket PC so that it becomes an extension of your desktop or laptop computer.

After installing PocketWeave on your PocketPC, you will be able to store approximately 3000 weaves, all ready for instant weaving.

A Closer Look

Understanding PocketWeave is simple: it brings your computer to your loom - without the computer! Once the weaves are in the PocketPC, the Compu-Dobby no longer requires a desktop or laptop computer connection, but can, in fact, control the loom directly from the Pocket PC device.

The Pocket PC is connected to the Compu-Dobby via a standard Serial connection (RS-232); so you plug it in the same way as you plug in a modem or a Compu-Dobby. Here's the procedure:

• Save your weave as a WIF file
• Send the WIF from the computer to PocketPC using ActiveSync™ software
• Connect your PocketPC to the Compu-Dobby
• Open PocketWeave and load your desired WIF file
• Tap on the loom Control Menu in PocketWeave
• Start weaving

That's it.

System Requirements

To use PocketWeave, you will need either:

• Any weaving program that creates WIF files
• An AVL Compu-Dobby I, II, or III
• Any Pocket PC device with at least 64 MB RAM that has a serial connection and a minimum of 64 MB RAM (due to our testing, AVL has found that the HP 2200 series (or higher) is the one that works the best)
