Debunking Linux myths
Very Useful Customer Post on ArahWeave PE
ArahWeave is a Linux-based weaving design package that is used by many professional textile designers around the world. The team at Arahne developed special versions (PE and Super PE) that are sized just right for AVL customers.
ArahWeave is available in the following configurations designed to best fit your needs:
- ArahWeave PE (Personal Edition) - Designed specifically for artists and small studio production. Weave size limited to 2048 ends x 2048 pick, no industrial CAM interfaces, no output of technical calculations in HTML or XML, Jacquard export only in common graphical formats (tif, png, gif) and AVL's JP1 format. Intended for owners of electronic jacquard handlooms, and design studios without the need for driving the production machinery. Also includes a library of 32,000 weaves.
- ArahWeave Super PE - When 2048 isn't big enough. Weave size limited to 4096 ends x 4096 picks, no industrial CAM interfaces, no output of technical calculations in HTML or XML, Jacquard export only in common graphical formats (tif, png, gif) and AVL's JP1 format. Intended for owners of electronic jacquard handlooms, and design studios without the need for driving the production machinery. Also includes a library of 32,000 weaves.
- ArahWeave Dobby Edition (available direct from Arahne) - Featured to support high-volume, power dobby loom production. Maximum weave size 32,000x32,000, Jacquard interfaces disabled, industrial dobby interfaces enabled. Intended for mills with dobby production, who need top quality printouts, technical documentations and machine interfaces to drive the dobby.
- ArahWeave Jacquard Edition (available direct from Arahne) - The top-end package for high-volume, Jacquard and/or dobby power loom production. Maximum weave size 32,000x32,000, includes dobby, Jacquard and all other industrial interfaces. Intended for mills with jacquard (and dobby) production, who need top quality printouts, technical documentations and machine interfaces to drive the jacquard (and dobby). Also appropriate for design studios who need to support all kinds of machinery.
- ArahWeave Demo – saving only in dobby WIF format, no colorimetry, no support for fancy yarns, no mulicolor yarns, no loom interfaces, printing is allowed, no printer drivers for photo quality printing on Epson Stylus Photo line of printers. Intended for evaluation, students and handloom owners without the need for electronic control or professional printouts.
Introduction
Arahne is a software company, specialized in developing CAD/CAM systems for weaving. It was established in 1992 and its products are result of tight cooperation with local textile industry and universities. Arahne has installations in the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bolivia, Brasil, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Egypt, Finland, France, India, Iran, Italy, Morocco, Macedonia, Mali, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, UK, USA.
Arahne's flagship product is ArahWeave, an integrated CAD/CAM system for dobby and jacquard weaving. Color shading is an advanced feature in ArahWeave, which enables you to weave any color image into a fabric with the same colors without any color reduction. This way, you can go directly from scanning to weaving.
Benefits
Due to its dual dobby / jacquard nature, ArahWeave can do things which are impossible on other CAD systemss such as preparing a dobby and jacquard CAM information from a single file (for special loom setups where you combine dobby for the ground and small jacquard heads for inlaid sections which contain writings or logos).
Jacquard Weaving Benefits:
- ArahWeave will generate 3.5" floppies in the desired electronic jacquard format, so you can go straight from CAD to production.
- If your jacquard is equipped with TCP/IP network card, we can connect looms and CAD into a network. (If you have old mechanical jacquards, you will need to have access to an electronic card-punching machine, which accepts floppies with jacquard data.)
Dobby Production Benefits
- Your weave is much smaller, so in most cases, it is acceptable to punch the dobby cards manually.
- ArahWeave will enable you to make realistic fabric simulations, based on the technical data that you will enter (weave, warp/weft pattern, density, etc.).
- You will be able to print out simulations and send them to your client for confirmation, and actually sell the fabric before it will be woven.
- Reduced response time to the customer and higher productivity in the preparation of technical documentation.
Features
- No division between the technical and simulation part of the program
- Always displays the fabric in the main window
- Choice of four views of the fabric:
- Weave
- Integer view (weave colored in warp/weft colors)
- Shaded integer view
- Simulation view: there are 7 simulation quality levels - each level takes two times more to calculate, but it is also more precise
- Works with multiple pop-up windows and you can change the density, colors, yarns, weave, and thread pattern and immediately look at the changed simulation
- Simulation is always re-calculated for screen or for printout at the appropriate density and quality
- Supports electronic dobby machines, warpers and drawing-in machines
- Anticipate the effects of warp and weft density, yarn count and respective yarn diameter on screen, at any density or yarn count, without unwanted Moireé patterns
- High level of color accuracy
- Warp and Weft Patterns:
- Up to 25 different yarns in warp and 25 in weft can be used simultaneously.
- Besides drawing warp/weft pattern with mouse, you can also insert or delete threads anywhere in the pattern with mouse.
- If the user is drawing the warp/weft pattern with mouse, the program automatically rewrites the numerical warp/weft pattern
- Conversion of fabric from one density to another, and keeping the same repeat size is automatic
- Generation of a square design (e.g. tartan) with different density in warp and in weft is automatic
- It is possible to move warp/weft pattern by 1 or 8 threads in any direction, or to mirror it
- Fringe option permits view and print out edge of just warp (bottom) and weft (left) besides design, just like in real fabric.
- Sort option will rewrite the pattern so that it starts with yarn A, followed by B, etc., as this is required by production department of many mills.
- A special function enables you to split (or merge) weft across several weft selectors.
- And much, much more!
