AVL Yardage Counter Instructions

The AVL Yardage Counter has been designed to be used in conjunction with tension boxes and bobbin winders. Its purpose is to keep track of how many yards of threads have been wound onto a sectional beam, bobbin, or spool.

Mounting and Using the Counter

The AVL Yardage Counter comes with a wooden bracket that makes mounting very easy. Attaching it to AVL products is described below. It can also be easily attached to equipment that was not made by AVL.

Mounting to the Tension Box

If your tension box was made by AVL, there should be two holes on the side of the box, near the front, where this bracket can be attached with the two screws provided. The counter can then be placed in the mounting bracket so that the wooden pulley lines up with the closest warp end that runs through the tension box. This would be the end that is closest to the side of the box that you mounted the counter on. When routing the warp end onto the pulley, make certain that the thread goes all of the way around the pulley. This, along with adequate tension while winding, will insure a much more accurate reading.

Mounting the Counter to the Bobbin Winder

Mounting the counter onto the AVL Bobbin Winder is quite simple, as it comes with the mounting bracket already in place. Simply insert the counter into the bracket and adjust it so that the small wooden pulley lines up between the two steel thread guides. Tighten the wing nut to hold the counter in place. When routing the thread onto the pulley, make certain that the thread goes all of the way around the pulley. This, along with adequate tension while winding, will insure a much more accurate reading.
