AVL Patent Denter

The AVL Patent Denter will greatly reduce the amount of time you spend sleying, so you'll have even more time for the creative parts of weaving. Best of all, this little tool is easy to learn and easy to use.

1. You'll want first to familiarize yourself with the Patent Denter. Hold it in one hand and flex the blade with the other. See how the different parts move? The advancing probe (see illustrations) will separate from the blade as it flexes. This is the action you want.

2. You may use the Patent Denter to sley left or right. Please note: When you insert the tool, the bend on its end should point opposite the direction you intend to travel.

3. Now position yourself in front of the reed. Choose the dent you wish to start with and insert the end of the Patent Denter.

4. Push it through the reed until the probe comes just to the front of the dent.

5. Apply some side pressure to the Patent Denter in the direction you are traveling. The blade will flex and the advancing probe will separate.

6. Align the probe with the adjacent dent space and push the tool in until its handle nearly touches the reed.

7. Place your warp thread in the hook and pull the Patent Denter back towards you. Catch the thread as it comes through the reed.

8. Like magic, the Patent Denter will have crept one dent over. You're on your way!
