Sticky Beam

Why the AVL breast beam isn't smooth.

You may be accustomed to a smooth breast beam. Don’t look now, but AVL’s is sticky. That’s right it grabs your cloth and then releases it. The Sticky System permits the AVL loom to use two separate tensions. One for the warp and the other for the finished cloth. That means you’ll never have to worry about matting or distressing the finished fabric. It also means that you can set the warp tension at the warp beam...where it belongs. And don’t worry about the AVL System harming your warp or finished fabric. AVL looms have been used on silk sett at over 200.

Sandpaper or other abrading surfaces are used on every power loom in the world and have been for years. The AVL Sticky Cloth Beam is another example of how AVLs are an intermediate technology somewhere between traditional handlooms and the 21st Century.

One hidden advantage is that for short warps or when you’re just getting going there’s no need to tie on; just wrap your warp around the Cloth Beam and start weaving. Really!
